FAQ & Answers
Check your Ethernet cable and be sure to have at least a CAT5/E, be sure that your modem/router has a gigabit port (1000)
if all the above is ok:
Windows logo key + x
click on Device manageropen the network adapter tree
double click on your ethernet adapter
click on advanced
scroll until Speed&duplex
force 1000 Mbps or 1.0Gbps
click ok
reboot and try again
0Did as you said and this happened
I have fiber glass cable.
And my router is definitly a gigabit router. My laptop is the only one that is limited to 100MB/s download. Other laptops with 1gb/s lan have a download speed of over 700 mb/s
0try to update Atheros lan drivers and retry (without forcing 1.0Gbps speed):

0Nothing happened. I had to reboot my PC but it is still the same. The internet speed test wont pass over 100 mb/s
Don't know what to do anymore, a friend told me that would be my antivirus or my firewall. Most laptops wich has windows 8.1 has this problem, dunno what to do next, I am opened to any suggestions.
So far I really appreciate your help. Thank you Mister.
Sorry to ask again but your connection between modem/router and notebook is with fiber cable?
to be honest i never hard issue on having 1Gbps connection with windows 8.1
0I have fiber cable into the modem (ZTE ZXHN F660) and from the modem into the laptop I have CAT5 cable.
I tested many laptops with this connections and every single one of them wich had gigabite lan had a speed over 800 mb/s except this one, my personal acer aspire v5-552pg.
Same CAT5 cable?
by the way, disable : Energy Efficient Ethernet
it's in the same windows where you have found the speed settings.

- I am on my phone right now. I did the bios update and my laptop doesn't work any more. It. Shows me 'no bootable device, hit any key' i press ok and than 'boot managet' 'boot option menu' 'up and down to change option, enter to select an option' and there are no options. Can you leave me a private message with your skype id or line so I can send pics ? Thanks
No, i can't give you my private contacts, sorry.
Try to boot pressing F2 to enter BIOS and on exit BIOS choose 'load default settings' or 'load optimal defaults'
0Well I called at the service where they have changed my primary HDD (the stock one 1Tb 5400 rpm into 160Gb SSD HDD) and they told me that they couldn*t make the SSD HDD run on bios 2.07 so they switched into 2.02. I have exchanged my old HDD and it's working now.
Here is the final test speed
As you can see it raised with 50 Mb/s ...
But still I know that this PC can do better. I'm dissappointed.
Thank you a lot for your help, I think I'll just have to admit that this laptop was not build to reach download speed of over 700 Mb/s .
- I'm not an Acer employee.
I have a ASRock N68C-GS4 FX mobo which uses Qualcomm Atheros 8171/8175 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller NDIS 6.30, driver version 2.1.0.21 . I have noticed that if the upload or download it is not 'sufficient' such as I am not continuously going from webpage to webpage or downloading something or playing a game, that my ethernet adapter seems to stop working, as if to just turn itself off. After much research and many attempts at a resolution, the only fix (albeit temporary) seems to be a restart of the desktop. However, if I am not constantly using the internet, it will drop again and I will once more have to restart. It seemed at first like a power saving mode issue, but I have disabled all of the power savings settings, even sleep mode and what not. I also have the latest drivers (I'm pretty sure?) for the controller, and everything else that pertains to the issue is up to date. Is there any workaround, other than restarting? Is there some sort of update, or maybe a setting I missed that I can change to resolve this issue?
Looking forward to your reply, and resolution.
Thank you
Follow up : I've been seeing tons of others having literally the EXACT same issue as I do, albeit of course not the same hardware; I have tried some of the recommendations, to no avail:
*Uninstall network adapter ghost drivers, restart - didn't help.
*uninstall network adapter drivers, restart, reinstall drivers in compatibility mode for windows 8 as administrator, restart - didn't help.
I've tried a combination of the two. nothings working.
